Basseterre, St. Kitts and Nevis: Prime Minister of St. Kitts and Nevis, Dr. Terrance Drew conducted a successful meeting with UAE-based investment firm, K&K Group, marking collaboration on geothermal power plant project. During the meeting several measures were discussed in order to lead the country towards its agenda of becoming a sustainable island state.
The K&K Group was led by Chairman Dr. Tajeddine Seif during the meeting conducted with PM Dr. Terrance Drew, and it featured discussions about several aspects of the project. This project will play a significant role in reducing the dependence of the island nation on fossil fuels which will further help in reducing pollution ensuring a safe and sustainable environment in the country.
The primary objective of the project is to produce clean and renewable energy. It will directly create a positive impact on the climate conditions and will also generate economic development by producing electricity free of any kind of emissions.
While shedding light on the benefits of the project, PM Terrance Drew noted that “the geothermal project is one for the history books.” He also added that it will not only reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuels but will also play a huge role in preserving natural resources.
PM Drew also asserted that the project will also play a significant role in tackling all the obstacles faced by the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis due to the climate change. The geothermal project will also open doors to several employment opportunities which will enhance economic conditions and foster sustainable development across the region.
The delegations also held discussions on educating and guiding the local citizens about sustainable energy technologies so that they can contribute to the growth and development of the nation.
Dr. Tajeddine Seif, the Chairman of the K&K Group also shared about the initiative and stated that the nation can enhance grid stability and reliability by integrating geothermal energy. He further added that it would not only benefit St. Kitts and Nevis but also the other island nations in the region through interconnection.
Moreover, PM Drew expressed gratitude to the investors for their utmost trust and confidence in St. Kitts and Nevis. He also added that he is looking forward to the positive impact that the project will have on all the citizens and the nation as a whole.
