On Saturday, January 29, 2022, Over the past 24 hours, the number of cases of a new strain of COVID-19 called Omicron rose from 74 to 78 in most Russian regions, as per the anti-coronavirus centre.

As per the reports, the number of cases of the Omicron variant has been reported in a total of 78 regions of Russia. Moreover, a total of 74 areas of the country have been recorded for the patients who were exposed to the Omicron.

While providing data on the novel coronavirus and the new variant called Omicron, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikov asserted that the rate of the patients who have been exposed to the coronavirus and the Delta strain had dropped to 47.9 percent. On the other hand, the share of the Omicron variant and other strains stood at 52.1 percent.

Earlier, the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, has further stated that the State Duma and the Federation Council, which is the lower and upper houses of the parliament of Russia respectively, should consider a bill. Through the bill, the government would tighten the penalties which have been used of torture by public officials as per the reports that have been released on Saturday, January 29, 2022.

Moreover, President Putin, while speaking at the annual press conference on December 23, 2021 in which he, stated that the crime rate would be in control by increasing the penalties.

As per the reports, the cases of torture and the brutal treatments of the convicts in prison would not be the only problems but the problem across the globe. He further expressed that in Russia, a total of 17 criminal cases has been opened to investigate the crime and also control the offence. Moreover, in conclusion, the punishment due to the criminals is inevitable, and people should face it.
