Why is Everyone Protesting the Creation of the European Super League?

Early Sunday, the top 12 European teams agreed to establish a new midweek game to compete with the Champions League (the so-called “Super League”). However, fans on social media encountered strong opposition, and some experts also criticized the “greed” of the twelve clubs. Many footballers also criticized the UEFA Super League in the chaos, claiming that it will cause damage in European matches and beyond.

Why is European Super League bad? Who is behind European Super League?

 Over the weekend, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Tottenham, AC Milan, Inter Milan, Juventus, Atlético de Madrid, Barcelona, and Real Madrid announced their plans to leave the league. 

The UEFA Super League will be a close match with 12 founding clubs, plus the other three planned, plus five clubs that will “make money” in the competition. However, since 15 teams will be exempt from relegation, there will be no real penalty for the second half of the game. The UEFA Super League also illustrates the currency problem that many believe continues to threaten football. 

From one perspective, each founding member of the club is expected to earn $ 400 million. This is roughly four times the team’s income from winning the Champions League (currently the most prestigious tournament in world club football). The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Pérez (Florentino Pérez), will be the first president of the European Football League. So in terms of sporting integrity, almost all of this will be lost. Super League teams will also not be able to buy players from another Super League team, which will likely allow them to beat other teams and leagues in Europe. 

There is also the question of team selection because it seems that the team is selected based on fan base rather than performance. Although smaller clubs like Leicester City and West Ham are not as good as Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal this year, they are still seventh and second in the Premier League. 

Players participating in the Super League will not participate in the World Cup and Euro Cup matches. They will not be allowed to compete in the national team. This will make it possible for Chinese Super League players to be unable to represent their country in international competitions.
