The use of Iranian drones by Russia in Ukraine is “appalling.” The following statement has been issued by the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Thursday, stating that the United States, as well as its allies would seek to block such shipments.
Blinken said during a visit to the capital city of Canada, Ottawa, “Moscow has used the drones to kill civilians in Ukraine and destroy the infrastructure they rely on for electricity, for water, for heat. It’s appalling.”
He promised to ensure that Canada and the US will keep working with our allies as well as partners to expose, to deter and to counter Iran’s provision of these weapons.”
Ukraine, along with its Western allies, has repeatedly blamed Russia of using Iran-made drones during attacks on Ukraine in the past few weeks.
Ukraine has said about 400 Iran-made drones have already been used against the civilian population of Ukraine, and Moscow has ordered around 2,000.
Meanwhile, Tehran has rejected the allegation, its Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian saying this week, “We have not supplied Moscow with any weapons or drones for use in the battle against Ukraine.”
He stated that, “If it gets clear to us that Moscow has used Iranian drones in the battle against Ukraine, we will definitely not be indifferent on this issue.”
Alongside Britain and the European Union, the United States has already enforced sanctions on Iran over the drone’s issue.
Past month, the capital city of Kyiv decided to significantly reduce its diplomatic relations with Tehran over alleged arms deliveries to Moscow.
