Ukrainian military have shelled a strategic bridge over the Dnipro river overnight in the Russian-held city of Kherson, the army announced on Monday.
As per information shared by regional deputy Sergei Khlan, “What a night for the occupiers in the Kherson. Strikes in the region of the Antonovskiy bridge.”
Southern army command spokeswoman Natalia Gumeniuk has confirmed about the attack, “The firing system we have developed in recent days shows results.”
“The strike’s impact has been large for both the Antonovskiy & Kakhovskiy bridges,” she mentioned.
The Antonovskiy bridge is the primary land supply link between the city & the south bank of the Dnipro.
It was somewhat destroyed on July 27, pushing the Russian invaders to rethink supply lines & possibly resort to using pontoons to cross the water.
As per the deputy head of the Russian-led regional administration, Kirill Stremusov, “There was one strike, a construction booth & a cement mixer caught fire. There is harm to the bridge floor, which indicates we will continue restoring it.”
he asserted, “There is no serious damage, the structural elements of the transport crossing were not damaged.”
Kherson, the capital of the region which bears the similar name, lies just a few kilometres from the frontline.
In recent weeks, Ukrainian forces have been clawing back territory in the Kherson region, which is bordering the Crimea peninsula that Russia has annexed in 2014.
Russian forces seized Kherson on March 3, the first major city to fall to Moscow since the start of the invasion on February 24.
Deploying Western-supplied long-range artillery Kyiv’s forces have pushed closer to Kherson city, which had a pre-war population of under 300,000 people.
