The Security Service of Ukraine has documented the criminal actions of a businessman in Odesa, who were trying to bribe the employees of the SBU. The following information has been shared by the SBU via their official social media handle.
As per the details shared by the SBU, “For a bribe of EUR 90,000, the person involved offered the Ukrainian special services to stop investigative actions and not to seize his property within the criminal proceedings, which are being investigated by the SBU.”
However, the employees of the Security Service immediately informed their management about such a “proposal” and thought out an operational combination.
It has made it possible to record the criminal actions of the person involved. During searches of his residence and work addresses in the city of Reni, the entire amount of the bribe was discovered.
According to the case file, the perpetrator was a local businessman, the director of one of the logistics companies. He is a figure in another criminal proceeding of the SBU, which is investigating corruption schemes involving the export of Ukrainian agricultural products.
On the basis of the collected evidence, SBU investigators informed the businessman of suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 369 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (offer, promise or giving an illegal benefit to an official).
The issue of selecting him as a preventive measure in the form of detention is being resolved.
An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The perpetrator faces up to 8 years in prison with confiscation of property.
