The Security Service detained another informer who was gathering intelligence on the deployment and movement of the Defense Forces near the front line in Donetsk region.
It is to be noted that, the attacker was in direct contact with a staff member of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.
At the beginning of August of this year, the person involved received from his Russian “curator” a primary task – to identify the combat positions of the reactive and barrel artillery of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in the Avdiiv direction.
Also, the henchman of the Russian Federation covertly recorded the number and types of heavy armored vehicles of Ukrainian troops moving to the front line of the eastern front.
In addition, he “leaked” information to the Russian special services about the presence of protective engineering structures near local railway stations and bridges.
According to available data, intelligence information was needed by the invaders for planning combat operations, including attempts to attack Ukrainian artillery positions by fire.
The details shared by the SBU added that, “officers caught the attacker red-handed when he was conducting preliminary reconnaissance of the area near one of the infrastructure facilities.”
As the investigation established, the Russian informant turned out to be a resident of Pokrovsk, who was remotely engaged by Russian military intelligence to cooperate in favor of the Russian Federation.
He maintained contact with the occupiers through his own account, from which he registered in Russian public places.
In the “reports” of the Russian special service, its informant described in detail the objects of surveillance and their geolocation with reference to the area.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the investigators of the Security Service notified the detainee of suspicion under part 7 of Article 111-1 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (providing assistance to the armed forces of Russia in conducting hostilities against the Armed Forces of Ukraine).
He is currently in custody. An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The perpetrator faces up to 15 years in prison.
Counter-subversion measures were carried out by SBU employees in Donetsk and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Donetsk regional prosecutor’s office.
