The Security Service has exposed the identity of another Russian occupier who is involved in mass murders of civilians during the occupation of Kyiv region. The details about the above mentioned has been shared by the Security Service of Ukraine via their official social media handle.
It is to be noted that the perpetrator is Senior Lieutenant Vadym Ovchinnikov, the commander of the reconnaissance platoon of the 37th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 36th Combined Arms Army of the Eastern Military District of the Russian Federation.
According to the information shared by the SBU, “his unit took direct part in the capture of the villages of Severynivka, Motyzhyn, and Kopylyv of the Buchan district.”
In between the period of temporary occupation of populated areas, the Russian commander and his subordinates traveled around the territory in armored vehicles to intimidate local residents.
During one of these “raids” in early March 2022, Ovchinnikov ordered to open fire on two passenger cars with civilians, which were moving towards the enemy BMP.
The victim’s car was occupied by a Ukrainian family trying to leave Severynivka for Uman in Cherkasy Oblast.
A man and his wife and their 15-year-old daughter were killed on the spot as a result of Russian fire from automatic weapons. Only the youngest 9-year-old daughter managed to survive.
According to the investigation, the criminal order to shoot local residents was carried out by 5 of Ovchinnikov’s subordinates:
▪ junior sergeant Mykhailo Zharky;
▪ Corporal Aldar Garmatarov;
▪ Corporal Serhii Zvarychevskyi;
▪ Corporal Artem Belikov;
▪ Private Ivan Naghumanov.
In addition, the crimes of these occupiers were confirmed by one of the Russian prisoners of war, who was in the same area as Ovchinnikov’s unit at the time of the execution of the Ukrainian family.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the investigators of the Security Service notified all six war criminals of suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 28, Ch. 1, 2 Art. 438 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (violation of the laws and customs of war, combined with intentional murder, committed by a group of persons according to a prior conspiracy).
The investigation was conducted by SBU employees in the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv region together with the National Police under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv regional prosecutor’s office.
