The security service exposed another informant of the Russian special services, who was involved in the preparation of new Russian air attacks on the Mykolaiv region.
The following details has been shared by the SBU, adding that, “In order to carry out the task, the attacker went around the area and covertly photographed the locations of the units of the Defense Forces.”
He also recorded the exact coordinates of detected military facilities on an electronic map and reported on the level of their protection.
He paid special “attention” to locations where he noticed the greatest concentration of personnel and military equipment of Ukrainian defenders.
Employees of the SBU arrested the suspect “red handed” while he was photographing the hospital and one of the combat units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
A mobile phone with photos ready to be sent was seized from the detainee.
According to the investigation materials, “the Rashists planned to use this information to carry out targeted airstrikes on the territory of the region.”
As per the SBU employees, “the perpetrator was a local resident who supported the holding of a fake referendum on the accession of Mykolaiv Oblast to the Russian Federation. He repeatedly wrote about this in pro-Russian Telegram channels.”
In this way, he attracted the attention of the Russian special service, whose representatives remotely offered him cooperation in the spring of 2022.
Further communication was carried out through one of the messengers.
So far, the investigators of the Security Service have informed the detainee of the suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 114-2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized dissemination of information about the transfer, transfer of weapons, armaments and military supplies to Ukraine, the movement, transfer or placement of the Armed Forces).
The court chose a preventive measure for him in the form of detention. The perpetrator faces up to 12 years in prison.
Counter-subversion measures were carried out by SBU employees in the Mykolaiv region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
