Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Denounces US space weapons Claims as “Malicious Fabrication”

WorldRussiaRussian Deputy Foreign Minister Denounces US space weapons Claims as "Malicious Fabrication"

Amid escalating tensions between global powers, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov vehemently refuted reports of the deployment of Russian nuclear weapons in space.

Calling the allegations a “malicious fabrication” orchestrated by the United States, Ryabkov’s denial follows recent disclosures from US officials regarding intelligence concerning Russian nuclear capabilities.

The United States, in a move signaling growing concern, communicated this intelligence to Congress and its European allies, highlighting potential international threats posed by Russia’s purported advancements in space-based weaponry.

However, according to a Reuters source, these new capabilities are deemed non-urgent in terms of immediate threats to the United States.

Responding to the allegations, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov refrained from commenting on the substance of the reports until official details are unveiled by the White House.

Peskov, however, suggested that Washington’s warning serves as a ploy to secure additional funds from Congress.

“It is obvious that the White House is trying, by hook or by crook, to encourage Congress to vote on a bill to allocate money, this is obvious,” Peskov remarked in a statement to Russian state-owned news agency TASS. “We’ll see what tricks the White House will use.”

These developments unfold against the backdrop of Russia’s incursion into Ukraine, characterized by Moscow as a “special military operation,” sparking the most significant confrontation between the West and Russia since the Cuban Missile Crisis of 1962.

The escalating tensions have led both Moscow and Washington to issue warnings regarding the risk of a conflict between NATO and Russia.

As the two foremost nuclear powers, Russia and the United States have expressed lament over the deteriorating state of arms-control treaties, which were originally crafted to mitigate the Cold War arms race and diminish the looming specter of nuclear warfare.

The recent exchange of accusations and denials underscores the deepening mistrust and rivalry between Russia and the United States, amplifying global anxieties over the prospect of a renewed arms race and the potential ramifications for international security.

The implications of these developments extend far beyond the realm of diplomatic discourse, raising profound concerns about the stability of the global order and the precarious balance of power in an increasingly volatile geopolitical landscape.

With tensions simmering and the specter of conflict looming ominously on the horizon, the international community watches with bated breath as geopolitical tensions continue to escalate, underscoring the urgent need for dialogue, de-escalation, and diplomacy to avert the dire consequences of a potential confrontation between the world’s nuclear superpowers.
