Russia has recently lifted a ban on Bangladesh’s potato exports, now voicing willingness to import the vegetable. Bangladesh can directly export potatoes to Russia as the nation has recently lifted the ban, says the embassy of Russia- the European country now at war with neighbouring Ukraine.
“The Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor) removed previously levied restrictions and resumed the import of potato from the entire territory of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh,” a spokesperson for the embassy in Dhaka said yesterday.
The decision has been made based on the information provided by the competent Bangladeshi authorities responsible for quarantine and protection of plants, about the measures taken to prevent violations of the phytosanitary requirements of the Russian Federation and the Eurasian Economic Union member-states.
As per the reports, Bangladesh has requested the nation to lift the ban citing that the government took required measures regarding the quarantine.
Alongside, the Russian Federal Service for Veterinary & Phytosanitary Surveillance has also permitted the import of tomatoes from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan. Specifically, the organization has lifted all the restrictions on the supply of tomatoes and peppers from Uzbekistan.
“The decision was made on the basis of results of the analysis of information on regionalization provided by the national organizations for quarantine and plant protection of the above countries, as well as on the measures taken to prevent violations of the phytosanitary requirements of the Russian Federation and the EAEU member countries,” the organization stated.
