Queen Elizabeth II- the longest serving monarch of the United Kingdom, died at the age of 96-year-old at Balmoral. She reigned for 70 years.
After hearing the news about Queen’s health, her family members started gathering at her Scottish estate on Thursday, where she spent her last days.
After the death of the Queen, her eldest son Charles, who was the former Prince of Wales, will lead the nation in mourning as the new King and head of state for 14 Commonwealth realms.
As per the statement released by the Buckingham Palace, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King & the Queen Consort will remain at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
Meanwhile, the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, took it to his social media handle to express condolences over the passing away of Queen Elizabeth II, where he stated that, “It is with deep sadness that we learned of the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. On behalf of the Ukrainian people, we extend sincere condolences to the Royal Family, the entire United Kingdom & the Commonwealth over this irreparable loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.”
Queen Elizabeth became the longest-serving British monarch in 2015, while surpassing her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria. This year, she became the world’s second longest reigning monarch.
Her reign spanned 15 prime ministers starting with Winston Churchill, born in 1874, and including Liz Truss, born 101 years later in 1975, and appointed by the Queen earlier this week.
At the same time, King has also shared the statement, adding that, “The death of my beloved Mother. The Queen, is a moment of the great sadness for me and all members of my family.”
“We mourn the passing of a cherished Sovereign & a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be felt deeply throughout the nation, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world,” Kind said.
“During this period of mourning & change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was so widely held.”
