The Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit has taken part in the ongoing EU-CELAC Summit taking place in the capital city of Brussels on Monday. During the visit, Prime Minister Dr Roosevelt Skerrit was welcomed by the President of the European Council Charles Michel, Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez along with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.

It is to be noted that, Prime Minister of Dominica, Dr Roosevelt Skerrit took it to his official social media handle to share the details of the visit. Along with this, PM Dr Roosevelt Skerrit has also shared the glimpses of the above-mentioned adding that, “Welcome at the start of the #EUCELACSummit in Brussels on Monday by President of the European Council Charles Michel; Prime Minister of Spain, Pedro Sanchez, President of the Council of the European Union; and President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen.”

Notably, during the Summit, the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen has made an announcement on behalf of the Team Europe on making an investment of 45 billion euros in the Latin America and the Caribbean until 2027 via Global Gateway programme.

While making the announcement, EU President Ursula von der Leyen, said that, “Team Europe will make an investment of over 45 billion Latin America and the Caribbean until 2027 via our programme Global Gateway. We shaped a high-quality investment agenda together, to the benefit of both our regions. We agreed on sectors and value chains to prioritize, from clean energy and critical law materials to health and education. And it’s not just about how much we are spending, but also how we are investing. Global Gateway comes with the highest environmental and social standards, and with transparency. This is the Europe’s way of doing business.”

Noting to this, European Commission, while elaborating on the following, added that, “We are building bridges across our two continents. For the first time in eight years, the EU and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) leaders meet for the #EUCELAC Summit in Brussels. Together, we’ll unlock the full potential of our partnership, not just in trade, but in thriving together. #TeamEurope will invest over €45 billion in LAC under #GlobalGateway. With an investment agenda with over 135 projects already in the pipeline, we’re committed to quality plans that drive progress. This week’s Summit marks a new chapter of our long friendship, shaping an investment agenda that benefits both sides of the Atlantic.”

During the Summit, the leaders from the participating nations held talks on several major topics of concern, including discussion on the solution for the ongoing issues.
