Samsung is ready to update its foldable devices. The company said on Tuesday that it will host a virtual Unpacked event on August 11, and is expected to showcase lower-priced folding products at the event, aiming to make the device surpass niche products. The company sent an invitation to reporters, saying that their virtual keynote speech will be held at 7 am. August 11, Pacific Time. Although certain parts of the world are reopening during the coronavirus pandemic, technology companies have yet to personally launch product launches. Invitation letter promotion: “Ready to unfold.”

Although Samsung has not elaborated on what will be announced in Unpacked, it has opened the Reserve Now system for Galaxy fans to pick up the equipment in advance. Customers who book in advance are eligible for 12 months of free Samsung Care Plus, up to $100 trade-in credit, and special booking offers that Samsung has not specified. The August 11 event is Samsung’s third time to open the box this year, and it is expected that it will continue the previously announced trend: allowing consumers to purchase devices more affordable. In January of this year, the company launched its flagship Galaxy S21 smartphone, which was priced at $200 less than its predecessor. Then, in March, it highlighted its low-cost Galaxy A smartphone series.

The company’s head of mobile devices, TM Roh, said in a blog post in December that Samsung plans to expand its foldable product line and make these devices “easier to use”, which may mean more affordable. “Z Fold 2 is hailed as a smartphone, reshaping the possibility of mobile technology. I am happy to say that as we continue to explore, develop and expand this category of change space, these are just some hints for the future,” Roh said Moment wrote. The design of mobile phones does not change much every year, and consumers spend more time using the device—about three years in the United States, compared to two years in the past. At the same time, the COVID-19 pandemic has damaged millions of people economically. Although the high-end specifications and cutting-edge features are eye-catching and exciting, people still care about their spending on mobile phones, especially now. Samsung usually uses its August Unpacked event to showcase its latest Galaxy Note devices.

The Note series once set off the craze for large-screen mobile phones and once demonstrated Samsung’s latest and greatest technology. But this title now belongs to the company’s fold line. These devices were first launched in 2019 at the $1,980 Galaxy Fold. They use a flexible display that can be expanded to a tablet or fold smaller to protect the internal screen. Although Samsung may not launch a new Note this year, the company said that the product line is not dead. Samsung launched the Z Flip in February 2020, following closely behind. The retail price of the device is US$1,380. It is an outward-folding flip design and is a high-tech folding phone. Samsung upgraded it to a 5G connection and increased the price to US$1,450 in July of that year. Samsung’s latest device, Z Fold 2, fixes the problems of the original Fold and is included in a larger screen and 5G connection. It became the company’s most expensive mobile phone at a price of $2,000.
