Europe gives signs of improvement in COVID-19 situation: WHO

In the improvement of the situation of the COVID-19 across Europe, World Health Organisation (WHO) Regional Director for Europe Hans Kluge explained that the continent had witnessed the rectification in the situation of the deadly infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2. 

He asserted that the organisation had glimpsed the sign of the better situation of the COVID-19 across Europe and noted,” The period between the start of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus and its surge was small. The time period was from 20 to 25 days”. 

While suggesting the situation of COVID-19 in Europe, he asserted,” The novel coronavirus region have been firstly surged and then fell down in entire Europe; however, there are some countries where the situation is not stabilised, and some countries are witnessing the start of the Omicron wave of novel coronavirus”.  

He further reiterated the three situations the world is facing, and the situations are:

1. Once the wave passes, there will be great creation of immunity among the population, and the reason could be the vaccination against the deadly viral infection, or it could be a natural infection. 
2. The reason behind the slower rate of infection caused by the novel coronavirus could be the winter season.
3. Moreover, the Omicron is milder than the delta, which has not caused the further surge ion infection across Europe. 

Kluge further underscored,” The infection caused by the Omicron variant of the novel coronavirus has now come to declination, and if the wave has returned, then there will be no possibility of its surge, and there will be no need to go back to lockdowns”. 

He further also explained the measures that should be taken to combat the viral infection caused by the Omicron variant. 

He asserted:

1. There should be rigorous surveillance in the country and also have to strengthen the measures that could combat the infection, so that country could fight against other new variants. 
2. Further, the vaccination drive should be ramped in the countries s that the transmission of the infection could be combated. 
3. Also, give them access to new antiviral drugs so that the vaccination could be ramped up. 
4. The guidance stated by the WHO against the novel coronavirus, such as wearing a mask and keeping distance, should be effective measures to curtail the pandemic. 

He further urged people and noted,” The people have to take the responsibility to combat the viral infection caused by the SARS-CoV-2 completely and people to conduct self-testing, self-quarantining and also adopt adequate measures”.
