The counter-intelligence of the Security Service exposed another member of the intelligence network of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the Russian Federation in Dnipro.
After the arrest of his accomplices in January 2023, he “went to the bottom”, but recently switched to a backup channel of communication with the Russian special services and continued to carry out enemy missions. The details about the following has been shared by the Security Service of Ukraine via their official social media handle.
Thus, this is already the eighth agent from the game network in Dnipro, who was exposed by the SBU.
As per the details shared by the SBU, “He used his status as a co-founder of a local non-governmental organization engaged in volunteering to mask intelligence and subversive activities.”
Acting “undercover”, the Russian agent tried to establish the locations of the headquarters of the Defense Forces stationed in the region.
The details added that, the intruder gave the information about the estimated number and types of military equipment that was transported by rail to the front line.
To gather intelligence, he watched the movement of the Armed Forces echelons from the office of the public organization, which was located near the railway junction.
In addition, the person involved “undercover” used his acquaintances, from whom he asked information about Ukrainian defenders under fictitious pretexts.
At the same time, the Russian agent monitored information about the consequences of the enemy’s “arrivals” on the Dnieper, and then “leaked” the information with the locations of the affected objects and the extent of the destruction.
The occupiers used intelligence to prepare new and adjust repeated air attacks on the regional center.
During searches of the person’s residence, a mobile phone with evidence of his correspondence with a representative of the Russian game was found.
So far, the investigators of the Security Service have informed the detainee of the suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
At the request of the SBU, the court chose him as a preventive measure in the form of detention. The investigation is ongoing. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment.
Complex measures were carried out by SBU employees in the Dnipropetrovsk region under the procedural guidance of the regional prosecutor’s office.
