The Canadian authorities have planned to lend a hand in rebuilding Ukraine’s railway system. The following information has been shared by the Ministry of Infrastructure on September 29.

Around six thousand kilometres of railway tracks have been shattered (or Ukraine has lost control of them) since the starting of the full-scale Russian invasion, along with fifty bridges and dozens of railroad stations that have failed to operate.

Meanwhile, Ukraine’s Minister of Infrastructure, Oleksandr Kubrakov said that, “Together with our Canadian partners, we agreed on creating a joint working group, where we will define priority cooperation projects together. We expect that in the near future we will start working on specific projects and start implementing them.”

A joint working committee will be established by Ukraine and Canada to find initiatives for collaboration. They anticipate beginning their installation soon.

Particularly, the Canadian Pacific Railway Company (CP) and the Canadian National Railway (CN) will offer Ukrzaliznytsia expert assistance in issues of railway management, logistics development, and infrastructure reconstruction.

Negotiations were led by Ukraine’s Kubrakov and Canada’s Minister of Transport Omar Alghabra, as well as the heads of Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) and the Railway Association of Canada.
