Cyber specialists of the Security Service of Ukraine has exposed dealers who were rerouting international calls to Ukraine. The following announcement has been made by the Security Service of Ukraine via their official social media handle. It is to be noted that, their services allows anyone from abroad to call Ukraine anonymously.
According to the details shared by the SBU, “This channel was also used by the Russians, which has created an additional threat to the national security of Ukraine.”
As a result of comprehensive measures, it was possible to expose 4 organizers of illegal business. They have already been notified of the suspicion, and the “telephone service” has been suspended.
As per the investigation materials, the dealers used PROXY servers, the latest IP telephony technologies, and specialized software.
This made it possible to bypass switching centers of domestic operators and made all calls passing through the “service” invisible to Ukrainian law enforcement agencies.
According to available data, this illegal activity brought dealers up to 50,000 dollars every week. USA.
In order to “confuse the tracks”, the organizers of the “business” used cover persons from among the socially vulnerable sections of the population.
However, the Ukrainian special service exposed and stopped the illegal activity.
On the basis of the collected evidence, the 4th defendants were charged with suspicion under Part 3 of Art. 28 and Part 5 of Art. 361 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (unauthorized interference in the operation of information and communication systems, electronic communication networks). Perpetrators face up to 15 years in prison.
The events were conducted by SBU and National Police officers under the procedural guidance of the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office.
