The SBU detained a Russian “mole” in the ranks of the Armed Forces, who wanted to “confuse” the Russians with the direction of the Ukrainian counteroffensive
The military counter-intelligence of the Security Service, with the assistance of the leadership of the Armed Forces, conducted a multi-stage special operation in the Dnipropetrovsk region. As a result of comprehensive measures, one more agent of the Main Directorate of the General Staff of the USSR (better known as Gru) was exposed.
The attacker turned out to be a resident of Energodar, who joined the ranks of the Armed Forces even before the start of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation. There he did military service in one of the garrisons in the Dnipropetrovsk region.
According to the investigation, at the end of last year he was remotely recruited by a staff member of the Russian military intelligence.
At the instruction of the aggressor, the suspect collected information about the plans for the participation of Ukrainian troops in combat operations at the front.
On the eve of the counteroffensive of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, the Russian agent received an “urgent” task from his “curator” – to find out the start date and the main directions of the Ukrainian counterattacks.
Also, the traitor had to hand over to the occupiers the routes for transporting foreign weapons and military equipment of the Defense Forces to the line of hostilities.
In addition, he tried to establish radio communication channels in combat units of Ukrainian troops.
However, the employees of the Security Service timely exposed the Russian agent, documented his criminal actions and detained him during the execution of an enemy mission.
According to the investigation, at the beginning of the reconnaissance and subversive activity, the suspect maintained communication with the aggressor through his mother, who remained in the temporarily occupied Energodar and caught sight of the game.
Subsequently, the traitor was brought into direct “contact” with Russian military intelligence. The Telegram messenger was used for communication.
On the basis of the collected evidence, SBU investigators informed the detainee of suspicion under part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason committed under martial law).
He is currently in custody. An investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The perpetrator faces life imprisonment.
The special operation was conducted under the procedural guidance of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office in the field of defense of the Eastern region.
