“It doesn’t matter to me,” she stated. “I just go on the court to play and I fight. That’s what we did together this week.”
Her partner, Diana Shnaider, similarly steered clear of political discussions, emphasizing their dedication to tennis.
“We are here to fight as a pair and we are very proud of that,” Shnaider remarked during the press conference. “I will not answer any questions about politics. I am here to talk about tennis.”
The participation of neutral athletes has been a complex issue throughout the Paris Games, with the IOC enforcing strict guidelines.
Those who qualified were required to pass a double-check to confirm that they did not actively support the war or have military affiliations.
