It is highly doubtful about the COVID-19 data, which has been released by the China and the World Health Organization (WHO) recently blamed it of underplaying the pandemic’s seriousness by concealing the actual nature of the situation across the nation. As per the Hong Kong Post, a senior WHO official, said that, “COVID-19 data presented by China is not giving proper image of the situation there and it under-represents the overall number of hospitalizations & deaths from the disease.”
WHO’s Director of Emergencies, Mike Ryan added that, “We believe that the overall numbers being published from China under-represent the actual impact of the illness in terms of hospital admissions, in terms of the ICU admissions, specifically in terms of death.”
The World Health Organization believes that the definition of death by the Chinese government is “too narrow.”
After the Beijing authorities have changed their definition of deaths because of COVID-19, there is a difference in the death figures claimed by the government and reports from the ground. On the basis of new definition, the authorities have made claim five or fewer deaths in a day. But funeral homes as well as hospitals in China say that they are overwhelmed.
According to the news report by the Hong Kong Post, “It is not surprising that the rest of the world is not taking the Chinese authorities claims at face value and have clamped tough restrictions on people travelling into different nations from China, including suspension of flights and strict COVID-19 testing requirement.”
The United States of America, the U.K. as well as several other European nations, among the Germany, France, along with Australia, Canada, Japan and India have imposed strict COVID-19 travelling restrictions on travellers from China.
