Security counterintelligence detained another Russian agent as a result of a special operation in Zhytomyr region.

The former deputy commander of one of the Ukrainian military units, who resigned in the early 1990s, was the attacker.

It was also established that in July last year the reconnaissance unit of the Russian military group “Wagner” attracted it to unspoken cooperation.

According to the investigation, the enemy carried out remote recruitment through the forbidden social network “VKontakte”, which was actively used by the person.

At the instructions of the aggressor, he collected intelligence on the movement of units of the Armed Forces, as well as “interested” personal data of the existing command staff of Ukrainian troops in the region.

In addition, he recorded the coordinates of street video surveillance systems near the buildings of public authorities and law enforcement agencies.

The relevant information needed the enemy to plan and possible diversions in the city.

The traitor was transmitted to the Wagnets through the spent electronic communication channels in the form of photographs with marks.

The SBU counterintelligence officers in stages documented the criminal acts of the Russian agent and detained him on the eve of attempting to escape abroad.

During the search at place of residence of the detainee, a laptop, mobile phone and maps of the region, which he used in blasting activities, were found.

On the basis of the collected array of evidence, the SBU investigators informed the enemy’s associate with suspicion under Part 2 of Art. 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (State betrayal committed in the conditions of martial law).

The court chose him a pre -trial detention measure. The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime.

The special operation was carried out by the staff of the SBU of Zhytomyr region for the procedural management of the regional prosecutor’s office.
